Stanley eventually tells his mother about the gambling and is furious but of course ultimately forgives him but not until after his attempt to run away and leave his family. He left saying he is going to he army and does not know when to return until he realizes his family needs him more than the army does. Blanches date never shoes up because he gets into an accident while being intoxicated. She finds out from his mother in a letter. Kate keeps referring to him and his mother as â€Å"those people† because Kate never liked the man. Blanche defends them and argues the point â€Å"How are we any better? † and that they’re human beings just like us. At the end of the play, despite all the arguments, disagreements and tensions, they are still one big loving, caring family with problems many people may have.
